Questions & Answers

The Defence Industry Security Program is run by the Department of Defence. It sets out the security standards a company must meet to work on Defence projects and handle classified material, covering governance, personnel, physical and cyber security.

Yes, but only where there is a genuine need. Applicants must be able to show why they require the clearance, which role or project it is for and how long it is needed. A clearance is not something to hold just in case, and we will not sponsor one on that basis. Where the need is clear we sponsor Baseline and NV1 clearances through AGSVA, and we recommend applying for Baseline first as NV1 processing times are longer. The clearance itself is assessed and granted by the Australian Government, not by us.

We start by confirming the justification, then complete our own identity and police checks before lodging the nomination with AGSVA. Applications can usually be started within 48 hours. The sponsorship stays with AJQ and can be transferred to another sponsor later if needed.

No. Sponsorship is independent of our consulting work. You do not need to be an AJQ employee or contractor, or be working on one of our projects. What you do need is a genuine, current requirement for the clearance, for example a government or industry role where the employer cannot sponsor you itself. The sponsorship sits with AJQ for as long as that need exists and can be transferred to another sponsor if your circumstances change.

DISP membership is held by a company and shows its security practices meet the Defence standard. A security clearance belongs to an individual. A Defence project may need both, and we can help with either.
