Vendor Architecture Review Case Study

Client | National professional membership body Health & Medical Industry

Engagement Overview

AJQ Technology was engaged by a national professional membership body to provide an independent view of a learning management system programme that was experiencing delivery difficulties with its incumbent vendor. AJQ subsequently re-engaged on the same programme to support a contractual exit.

Scope & Complexity

Key complexity factors included

  • Independent assessment of an in-flight programme without disrupting the existing vendor relationship
  • Architecture review of the proposed solution against the client’s requirements
  • Evaluation of programme progress, delivery patterns, and root causes of the issues being experienced
  • In the second phase, assembly of an evidence base sufficient to support a defensible contractual exit

AJQ Approach

In the first phase, AJQ reviewed the proposed solution architecture, programme progress, and the nature of the delivery challenges. Based on the findings, AJQ recommended that the vendor be replaced. The recommendation was not accepted at the time and the client continued with the existing vendor. Over the following period, programme performance tracked to the trajectory AJQ’s review had identified.

The client subsequently re-engaged AJQ to support a contractual exit. AJQ worked alongside the client’s legal and procurement teams to assemble the evidence base required to exit the contract on defensible grounds.

Outcomes Achieved

  • Independent architecture and programme review delivered with clear, evidence-based findings
  • Successful contractual exit from the vendor on the basis of documented evidence
  • Client positioned to pursue an alternative path for the LMS programme
